15 mm wasteland grunt

Hi all, here is a grunt for the toxic wasteland raiders. The other two should follow tomorrow or monday.

Critique?

Shoulders look a bit rounded. The human side should be higher at least, the tentacle arm may be good without a high shoulder.

The back of the robes appears to have a strange lump low down... what part of his body or equipment is causing this? A tentacle tail? have it peeking out from underneath the edge of the robes

the sleeve looks cylindrical, it should hang more if it is cloth.

face.. have a go separately to fit in. That way you won't ruin everything you have done.
Try a 15mm face... try one with a hockey mask, try a bare face,, try a few faces. Practice and you will get there.

weapon looks a bit soft, the "furniture" needs to have harder edges and symmetry. Hard edges are difficult to do.

good points,

the folds across the front look effective.

Looks nice and tatty in places. Some nice seam lines

proportions look good underneath the clothes

you are getting there.... make some tweaks and we can see how they look in metal.

Squiggy is beginning, some practice and some tweaks and a bit of learning and developing his skills and he can have a go at a 28mm in the next frothers comp too.  :icon_w00t:

If he gets some of these in metal.. he can see what happens when cast and how it changes from the master... he can look back on what works and what doesn't.

I have a couple of my own to put in a master too... I need to see if they work, and how much smoothing etc need to be done. (they are hard surface sculpts not figures and I have worn out two very fine guitar refinishing sanding sticks on them. Yes I am being a perfectionist... )

If painting and sculpting are similar.... 28mm seems huge when you go back to it after doing 15's, and you feel like getting a roller out when faced with a 40mm figure.

Only because the edge og the sleeve if caught on the stock og the gun, but 'tis fixed now

I want you to do a face you can be proud of when you look back at this stage of your sculpting, in your first (?) batch of metals. Try human - a normal human no glasses or goggles.... look at Peter Pig figures for really simple faces that paint well. You can do better than those.

Yeah sure, I asked because some sort of wrappings would tie better in with the other figs and fluff a bit.

Heh, I doubt it. I've tried sculpting a mini for that comp every time they've held it but I've never managed to get something enterable

Nothing to add. Everything has been covered in extensive detail. Perhaps a bit to harsh. Don't break Squigface! (I suspect I would have)  Bungle is - as we all know- a nice man  :icon_wink:.
Just a question: Do you use magnifier? I don't when I work in 28 mm but find that it really really helps in 15 mm.
And hard edges are a matter of timing. Do them when it's soft, sharpen up, sharpen up and sharpen up AGAIN while the putty is curing.

Not generally, I still have youthfull eyes and good lighting. But my lamp has one built in, and I use it on occasion. Oh and don't worry Bodhi, I'm used to worse ;)

sorry if it came across that way.  Its a huge picture of something 1.5cm high, any problems will be magnified 10 times on my screen.

I'ts fine Bungle, I don't think you were harsh. Just slightly blunt, which was in this case a good thing as it helped make the mini better :) Anyway, IMO you could be as blunt as you liked seeing as this is something you'd be buying and selling.
