Spent the evening watching Host

A Korean film, with subtitles

and a big beastie that seemed to remind me of an aquatic version of the new nasty hasslefree have in the white metal range.

Not bad overall... worth getting out on DVD

Got it on DvD and enjoyed it, would recommend watching it.
It's 1 hour and 59 minutes (approx) but doesn't seem that long.

Wonder when this will get the Ring\Grudge\Pulse treatment.  :icon_wink:

The special effects are good and you get to see the monster in detail as it charges around in the daylight.

Really enjoyed it, well worth a watch and a refreshing change from hollywood fare.

I really hope it doesn't, some films loose it when re done. Dubbed might work better.

I think the back story of criticism of the US govt wouldn't translate well.

Not the same when they get redone (no offence) thats why after i watched the American Pulse remake i got the Japanese one but am waiting a bit before i watch it.

Dark Water is another one that i think the Japanese one is better, they seem to capture the feel better i think and don't relie on special effects too much.

I think dubbing works well if you get the right sounding voices, there's a German (i think) war film called "Stalingrad" and the first time i watched it was with subtitles but i seen it again later dubbed and some of the voices didn't seem to fit.

I agree.

I remember watching dukes of Hazard in french........ totally different with the choices of voices, Rossco wasn't half as funny.

I like buying foreign films where you have the choice of dubbed and original language with subtitles, one to watch and concentrate on the images, and one to concentrate on the dialogue. I had to go back a re watch some parts of Host to read read as I was so busy watching the effects I missed the subtitles.

Way more easy with DVD to go back and read again, bit of a pain back on video.

I waited and got Night Watch with the English dubbed version on it so i didn't miss anything, i probably have more dubbed films than i think.
My favourite foreign film is "Les Visiteurs" which was murdered into "Just Visting" (sorry but it's true).
The French one is rib-tickingly funny and well acted and without a big budget too.
