Yeah, it's blanattly fourth mate. It's a new version, the last one was the third so this is the fourth edition but you didn't want to admit to it so quickly after pushing out the last one.

Ever since then this stupid "point five" thing ahs been annoyingly tacked on to everything to try and make it seem good but sometiems we forget how bad some of the early 3rd ed stuff was. Therefore I present the hideous flatmodelism that perpetuated in the range of mini's they produced:

But it wasn't all bad. There were the occassional (as in one or two) good models amongst them. For instance, this woman manages to look good despite her flatmodelism (and the fact that she's a "named" nobody illustration that only occurs on a single page of the PHB, and once recently in the heroes of horror book).

For another example of when flatmodelism occassionaly looks good see my flatmodelism is bad for you thread (demonstrating a very nice redering of a flat model).

Yeah, the 'iconics' in D&D are a strange bunch. When I saw the sketches in Dragon for 3E, I thought "Wow! These guys look cool; I really want to play characters like that" and when I got the 3.0 PHB I thought "Oh.... the sketches looked much better. These guys are a bit... naff"

e.g. the woman in the bottom pics had a cool owl familiar in the concept sketches that was nowhere to be seen in her final illo. Similarly, the druid concept looked scary but sexy with strange face paint and a puma companion... instead we got a girl with twigs in her hair and a reticent wolf.

rant over.
The questions we should be asking are these:
Does it have dungeons?
Does it have dragons?
Does it have transients who kill things for money?  Do you roll a d20?

The reason she's on the base she came with is that the tag's too bloody long to put her on anything else without losing those cool stones that were oh so lovingly put on it by someone.....

How long ago did you paint these Balgin?

Let me see...... About a year before my first Reaper order that was direct from them (my first Reaper order was from the site that ahd the 50% closing down sale prices on all the Chainmail stuff, including these guys). So.... that'd be around 2002/2003?

Hold on, the Reaper shop says my first order from them was in late 2004.

So I probably did paint these guys in 2002/2003 (probably late spring to summer 2003, that'd fit in right with my memories of what was going on when I was painting them).

Why did you ask? Well, they do look a bit bad but my painting skills were not so good then (although I know I did them quick and abit sloppy because I despised the crud* flatmodelism scultps with their mold lines as opposed to tendering unto them great loving care during the painting process as I would have done, had they been worthy).

The other four "iconic" models had terrible mold lines, worse sculpts and one of them even looked nothing like his preview picture on the back of the box! crud*py flat pose, worse spikes, different details, everything! I'm not kidding.

I just wanted to know how long ago they were painted.

Well it's a geuss. I know I painted them sometime between my first and second Reaper order (and my second Reaper order was in early december of 2004 and arrived in five days from america!

I also know that I painted them before I painted Rilenya (the yellow/green brown girl) who I know I painted a few months before buying the beginning of my Warmachine army, which was around 3 years ago (possibly nearing 4, I'd need to check, The Bill switched from teusdays and wednesdays to wednesdays and thursdays which narked me off 'cause the gaming club was on a wednesday evening then which inconvenienced me).

So mid to late 2004 is a pretty good geuss.
