A flyrant a la Eyeolas

I decided a few days ago that I wanted to do a tyranid army, and so I did what any young enthusiastic warhammer player would, go to my local GW and drop all of their money on the counter. One of the things I knew I wanted to do was a flying hive tyrant. After several hours, lots of bad language and a large excess of glue, I produced this:






and after some more time, I moved the building foreward about half an inch to make the model TONNES more stable, and added a little more gubbinz, sich as rippers





(the last picture is horrible I know, but they where all slightly rushed)

still to do is the green stuff, and lots of it.

also, the base is going to be a really dense swampy area with lots of crud, leaves etc on the ground and ivy all over the building etc. Does anyone know where I could find either some good swampy basing stuff or a tutorial for making swampy bases?

I'm not familiar with the model and find the photos and materials a bit confusing.

So far it looks like a huge winged thingy does it have a head?

You seem to have worked hard on a dynamic pose, I'd like to see it undercoated to get a better sense of what it looks like as a model.

I think the head is where the bladelike thing in the middle protrudes from (between the shoulders). Something like these, I guess: 1, 2

eyeolas: how do you keep the winged one from toppling over - did you glue metal bits under the base?

no actually, he stands up compleatly on his own. The large are to glue model to base the building provides helps, and the majority of the metal is right over the base so mostly helps him stand solidly.

Thanks for the links, the little tip on tree stumps is great and will most likely appear.

With those swamp bases did you do proper water effects or just use PVA glue?

and no, I'm currently building the remainded of my army, then green stuff will be distributed accordingly, then, once my other projects are finished, maybe I'll get some painting done  :icon_wink:

the swamp bases were done as simply as i could, i took paperclips and grenstuff for the vegataion, and the water itself is simply GW gloss varnish over painted on light and dark patches on the base, the  gloss varnish was tinted a bit with scorpion green, and applied 3 to 4 times to the base. i was going for a swampy skavenblight type thing, so long as you dont add to much color to the gloss, it works fine, practice on a empty base or 4 to get the mix you want first is my advice, its easy to get it to bright.
