lol cheers but the reason I say I am useless is cos I have no brush control.  I constantly have to hold my hand against my desk which holds the fig and put my arm that holds the brush against it too and then start painting to get the neatness.  I can only get this neatness though, I could never get detail done like a stripe around the base of a cloak.  If the detail isnt in the actual sculpt of the fig then I cant add to it if you see what I mean?

I got pissed off with a fig so smothered him with a black ink mix in aggression.  Came back next day and fig looked liked it had all been lined in so carried on with it.  Thats how I got started using the whole blank ink wash thing.  Only done 3 or 4 figs like it but the results look better than what I get using coloured inks.  My big problem is that I use the coloured ink either too thickly or thin them too much and I put too much on the fig and it runs into other areas, try to clean off with the brush but still leaves traces.

I guess its just practice and I'll get the mix right one day.  I will keep trying different methods and eventually combine them all into a style I like, it'll take longer to learn but I should have a good range of techniques by the end of it.

I first started by undercoating black, drybrushing white and inking in colours, I have advanced......honest ! :toothy10:

Neatness and brush control come's with practice, i have my elbow's tight against my side's and my painting hand on my other hand thats holding the figure to steady myself when doing very fine stuff.

The only way to learn to do a stripe is to do it.  :icon_wink:

When mixing your ink with water only add a small amount till it right, i test it on kitchen roll to see what it's like and wast your brush before testing.
Before you applay the Glaze wipe you brush on kitchen roll (it's what i use) to remove excess glaze, this stops it running everywhere and have kitchen roll handy too.

It's better a thin glaze than a thick one as you just need to do more thin glazes and let the first dry before doing the second.

One of the thing that i found helped was working out what colour to add for highlights and which glaze\glazes to use on what.
I never thought of mixing elf flesh in the last few highlights of green skin, like around the lips, eyes and such.

If i got anything wrong there please post the correct way.

Don't know if it's the same with painting but when I sculpt I find that it takes a few minutes for my eyes to adjust. Once they've adjusted to the size of the mini handcontrol kind of follows. It's odd really because I normally have quite shaky hands (I drink to much coffee and have some neurological type of pains in my fingers - causes so far unclear) but when I sit down with the little figures my hands become very steady all of a sudden.

I have been lucky enough to have always had steady hands. My problem has always been time.

Same her except I often have to brace my forearms against my legs too. Fortunately I'm supple enough to sit with my knees drawn up under my chin with no great discomfort (and it keeps my body warmer too).
