Title: Introduce yourself...
Post by: Custom_Hobby on January 12, 2007, 01:23:38 AM
Tell us a little about yourself. Who you are, what you do, what parts of the hobby you enjoy, etc. Anything you are willing to share...

Hi.. I'm Bungle

I'm evil.. its official, I just put someone in hospital with the stress and worry I caused him by doing my job.  :icon_redface:

I enjoy gaming.. when given a chance... and paint occasionally. My painting is "good enough for gaming" in my opinion... but looking at prepaints i'm in the top 10% of painters LOL.

My first metal figures were Minifigs LotR in 1973.

As a hobby... I am getting some figures done to release.....

Hi guys, i guess most of us know each other from FOD. But anyhoo. Im AM from sydney, I collect more minis than i can paint. My GW addiction is limited to the imperial Guard, I love collecting female miniatures because im a cheescake monkey. I have alot of hasslefree/heresy and freebooter minis. Love the hobby in general and slowly improving my painting when i get off the bloody internet and paint! Ive got back into the hobby in the last few years after a brief flirting 5 years ago, and before that a large hiatus 15 years ago when i used to paint airfix planes/tanks and 1:72 soldiers (gave the lot away!!).

Hi!  Names Travis.  Along with Navarr, I am half of the main force behind CharCon (www.charcon.org).  We were lucky enough to have Custom Hobby/Mike on board as a partner for our first year and it turned out great!  We are hoping for good things in the future.

In real life, I am a data manager, love to play games and couldn't paint a barn...although I sure as hell have a fine appreciation for folks who can paint, model, customize, sculpt, etc.!

Glad to be here!

Hello folks,

My name's Phil and I currently work as a Scientific Adviser to the London Fire brigade (and many of the other brigades in the SE of England).  I'm primarily a wargamer and don't paint quite as many figures as I'd like mainly due to a lack of time, motivation and talent.

Hi, i'm Al. Been gaming (roleplay and wargaming) for 20+ years. Starting to enjoy painting minis for the first time (about time). Mostly roleplay now, currently playing a halfling highway man in HARP (using the Sherbert van Halfling mini, perfect), but enjoy the occasional game of warmaster and Bloodbowl. Joined this and FOD recently to help with painting skills and get advice from like minded people.

Hello, I'm George from the Collecting Citadel Miniatures group.  I'm 28 and sell Samurai Swords for a living.  I collect Dwarfs mainly, 80% through getting every Fantasy Dwarf Citadel have produced since Pre-slotta ended.  I also have all but 1 of the Heartbreaker Dwarfs, lots of Tir-Na-Bor Rackham Dwarfs....erm.... Chainmail, Warcrow and some BlackTree Dwarfs too.  Lots of bloody Dwarfs lol

When I have finished the Dwarfs I intend to get all GW's range of Halflings, only 60 odd and then I dunno what next.  I have some treacherous Elfs, High Elves, Orcs and Goblins but the rest of my collecion is plastic and what came in boxed sets like Bloodbowl, Heroquest, Space Marine, Space Crusade, Genestealer etc.

I can paint to an average degree, getting better all the time but I am here mainly to get and post tips on painting me figs.  I have most of GW range of paints plus all the Coat d'arms range, every flock and scatter imaginable but unfortunately the artistic aptitude of a nuclear bomb.  I am interested in getting very good results quickly with the brush by using methods rather than painstaking precision and hope to share tips with you when I compile what I've learnt

Any serious collectors of GW figs should join the CCM group as we trade and swap figs with each other rather than go thru Ebay

best wishes

George

CCM is an awesome resource for miniatures collecting.  I don't think there's a mini out there that the group can't identify!

I'm Alex, I'm a 4th year medical student at Edinburgh. I seem to spend most of my time avoiding doing anything constructive by lurking on forums, but when not doing that, I'm DMing a True20 game for some mates. Unfortunately, we manage to get around one game in per semester, but with luck that'll change for the better soon! When I go home for the holidays, I like to play Mordheim with my pals there. Each year we decide we need new scenery, and each year we end up playing on the battered cardstock models that came in the box set. Hopefully I'll find enough motivation here to actually make a start!

Hi all,

I'm Dave - by day a mild mannered call centre team manager, by night a dad of 4 and manic lead addict. Collected since the later 70s when I discovered Hinchliffe miniatures........then found Minifigs just before an English shop imported some really expensive miniatures by a wierd named company called Ral Partha - these figures were 50p each - considering Minifigs were about 14p if I remember rightly that was a lot! Tom Meier (though I didn't know it at the time) had arrived! It was downhill from there. I later worked in GW retail (Manchester) during the later solid base days which was a gas (impoverished days - got a friend Tony a part time job there, he now sits at the top of Forge World although I haven't seen him for many years, probably Games Day back in 80s). Left there for a real job, held that for a year (during which I was kind of offered a 'lackey' job at Citadel in its infancy in Newark (by company secratary Diane?) - wish I'd taken it, musician lifestyle (pubs and clubs only) changed things and I went back to GW! Left there again after another year (I think, it's a long time ago) and spent the next 15 years trying to succeed in music.............oh well - if anyone wants a thousand rehearsal demos from some really cool rock/pop bands let me know.

I've now spent the last 5 years trying to collect all the minis I gave away/swapped/lost etc. Completely addicted to Dragontooth and Heritage John Carter / Lord of the Rings / Star Trek - so if anyone has any of those ranges to trade and is looking for Citadel stuff - let me know!

Dave

Seeing quite a number of familiar names here. :)

Some of you will already know me, so for the others; I'm Ming-Hua from the Netherlands. Trained as mechanical engineer, currently project engineer/instructor in CAD software. I started scale modelling military verhicles some 30 years ago and ended up with miniatures since modelling was too close to my daytime job. :) Main hobby now is miniature sculpting and I'm one of the moderators at 1listsculpting. Right now I'm not doing as much sculpting as I'd like to since my daytime job is eating up my time. :( Ok, that's about it I think.

Heya, some of you guys know me from other boards, but for those of you who don't;
My name's Irene.
I'm from Australia.
I paint miniatures for a living, albeit a rather measly one.
I gave birth to my first child in November last year, as a result I haven't even touched a brush for aaages.
I'm just getting into jewellery making, I recently ordered some sterling silver findings so I can make some good stuff when I can find the time.
I like computers, food, music, single malt whisky and long walks on the beach. OK I don't really like long walks anywhere... I'm pretty lazy come to think of it.
Now I must go, Ava is having a right spazz at me!

Hi Irene,

good to see you here. So you're going into jewellery making? Have you had training or are you doing it all by yourself? I've had a year of training at a local group. Unfortunately I had to quit when I went to work in another town. I'd love to pick it up again. So would Cindy by the way. She's had more training than I did at another group. The focus of the two group was different so apart from the basics of cutting, forming and soldering we've used different techniques. I've done silver casting (I've cast three dragonhead which I first sculpted in green and then made a cast of in wax) and wirework while she has done hammering and stonesetting. Anyway, I'd say, set up a section for that on your forum and we'll chat about that too. :)

Bye for now, Ming-Hua

I haven't got the time to take up jewelrymaking but making a few designs in greenstuff and then have someone ELSE cast it in silver sounds like an interesting thought. Ming: Do you know of anyone who provides such a service?

One idea I've allways wanted to do is a  tiny evil pixie working his way through an ear -where the upper body would make one part of an earring (ear stud? I'm unsure about the proper english name here?), the lower body the other part  :icon_razz:

I did start my sculpting years ago with making earrings in fact though they were cernit ones that I sold the originals of at festivals and streets. I hated the streetvendoring bit but the sculpting was fun.

Ming: Do you know of anyone who provides such a service?
You best talk to your local silversmiths (not just a jeweller). How refined are the greens? If they are not too refined a silversmith could cast them in sand. Even double sided. A more precise process is the lost wax process. Check with your silversmith if he can work from a green. Or you could make some wax copies yourself (get wax from the silversmith). The process is nearly the same as metal casting of miniatures.
There are also professional silver casting foundries who will be able to do the whole process for you. Not sure where they are in your country though.

By the way, unless you have experience at it or supervision, don't cast silver yourself. The temperatures are a lot higher than with white metals and it behaves quite different.

Hope this helps.

Bye, Ming-Hua
Title: Re: Introduce yourself...
Post by: Zordana on February 12, 2007, 01:52:01 AM
Cheers :)

Ming-Hua, I'm just doing it by myself. Nothing as indepth as silver casting, just making earrings and bracelets using findings and pearls/swarovski crystals/ and different types of beads. I just purchased a bunch of sterling silver findings to work with when Ava lets me get back into it :)

A forum is a good idea, I might just do that once I get back into the swing of things :)

Your evil pixie idea sounds cool, Bodhi :D

Hi, I'm Steve.  I fix helicopters for a living.  I'm a family man with a wife and two children.

I've been in the collecting/painting hobby for over 20 years.  I have mostly collected GW stuff but have completely switched to other manufacturers over the last couple of years...mostly Grymn from Hasslefree.

I rarely game; in fact I haven't done so for about 10 years now but I do collect to lists and have most of the WH40k codecies in order to do so.  I don't necessarily use GW troops though.

I sculpt minis to varying standards and have done sculpts for other people...but I'm certainly no pro.

I frequent the FoD and various other forums as either Inso or Insomniac.

I am going to Salute this year...YAY!

I am an insomniac which means that sometimes I don't make much sense (which only adds to my eccentric character).

I wish I had a puppy.

Okay,

I am a bit tardy in doing this.  I was one of the first to sign up for Mike's list when he started it and am just now getting to the point to post.  Our local group has a forum site that I haven't posted to in weeks because I am so busy.

My name is Nick.  I am the other half of the Charcon Convention that Travis mentioned in his intro.

I live in WV.

I do mainly LOTR.  A large number of CH's LOTR pieces are in my collection.  I think I am responsible for putting the Mike(s) children through college and medical school and their large collection of porche 911's they park at their beachfront houses.    :icon_w00t:

Mike has posted several of the pieces on this forum.  Here is a link to a photobucket page with some of the LOTR battles I have ran at various cons:

http://s78.photobucket.com/albums/j114/navarr_2006/

You can see the Helms Deep set, Minas Tirith, Grond, siege towers, orc landing craft, corsair ships, ect, in the pics that are all from CH.

CH is currently working on a couple of new projects for Origins 07 for me.  One, of course, is a LOTR project and the other is a sci-fi set.

I won't say anything about them until the Mike's are ready to show some pics.

My name is Dave.  I paint and play with toy soldiers, and I haven't had a life for 15 years   :icon_neutral:  :icon_beer:
I mostly paint to relax, to a reasonable and improving standard.  I paint both fantasy and sci-fi in various scales, but at heart I am deeply sci-fi  :abduct:

I sometimes find time to play wargames, when a hole in my schedule happens to coincide with one of my gamer friends.  Recently it has mostly been Epic40k and near-future stuff, but I have been known to play other stuff, including AD&D and Traveller as well as other wargames.

At the moment I am painting:
1) Baccus6mm Austrian Napoleonic Army;
2) 2x Hasslefree Harem Guards;
3) Pendraken 10mm Aliens (various);
4) A 6mm/10mm Farmhouse/Countryhouse with a tower;
5) An Epic40k Ork Army;
6) 500pts of 40k Space Marines;
7) Anything else that takes my fancy  :icon_razz:

Evening all, found my way here via Mike/CustomHobby's posts on Frothers...

RL:Ian, run my own company working in architectural, exhibition and display modelmaking together with a sideline business in hobby supplies and resin scenery. Been messing around with models,RPGs and minis for around 30 years plus now; have been away from the hobby for a while, tho as the big scale bill-paying stuff took over somewhat. Trying at the moment to reverse the priorities a little :)

Hello all the new folk  :welcome:

About taking photos, if you have a decent camera with above 4 mega pixels but are having trouble getting close ups of your figs.  Try taking the shot a bit further away from the fig and when it goes onto your pc, use a graphic editor like paintshop pro or whatever to crop the background out so all thats left is the fig and a little border.  Because the photo quality is so good it in effect zooms in for you without losing any clarity

Hey i'm Matthew, pretty sure I'v seen everyone here on other sites. Namely the FoD and Wyrd.
Been in the hobby for a little over a year and only paint. Tried gaming, but never really enjoyed it.
Iv got a website with a gallery and tutorials etc... take a look if you like: www.matthewbraid.co.uk
I strive to improve my painting, but the past few month Iv hit a bit of a brick wall with motivation and improvement. Im going to GD and the Salon De Jue in Paris and after that i'm hoping to  re-evaluate and take my skills up a notch or two.

Not much else really, so hello!

Hi!
You are not alone, I've never even been bothered to try gaming. But I love the hobby. I got into it because I couldn't spray plastic kits during the long winter, but I could brush paint mini's
Now I do terrain so much that I've stopped plastics altogether, and mini's are more a neccesary evil.
Welcome. :icon_w00t:

Ahem... My name's Chris, I live in the UK and I'm a geek. Some of you may know me from the FoD.
I started D&D Basic when I was 9 and got dragged into GW stuff because at the time it was another place to buy TSR modules (now that really dates me!). As I got to 18 I got very disillusioned with GW and that coincided with the loss of my local indy game shop. The internet was still a long way off so I gave the whole lot up.
I got dragged into roleplaying again a few years ago by a friend looking to pull me out of a funk caused by a long period of unemployment and I've been gradually increasing my hobby involvement ever since, finally getting back into painting minis earlier this year after my DM introduced me to HF and I got hooked on Kev White's ladies. I'm a trained and multiple-degree qualified marine biologist but currently I stack shelves in a well known supermarket chain, having got and lost a whole new job as a government fisheries biologist since I restarted in the hobby. Thanks to all of you who voted Labour last election, I was one of your Civil Service cuts  :icon_wink:
And that's me.
I'm not bitter about the Labour thing...
...honest  :icon_twisted:

Hey all.

I need another membership like I need a hole in my head, but there've been times...  Anyhow, I'm happy to find old friends here.  Some have fallen silent at the other place I've seen them, some not so silent.

I haven't spent any time lurking at all, consequently, I'm completely unaware of tone, tenor, focus, that sort of thing.  Nevertheless, here I am.

I've done a bit of roleplay, tabletop wargames, baseless kitbashing and scratchbuilding, but now I suffer most from Attention Deficit Modeling Disorder.  Too many things started, nothing finished.

:welcome: to the Custom Hobby Forum, Sagunt!!

Tone and tenor here tend to be honest and open and we try to avoid being offensive.

Focus is anything to do with the hobby, painting, sculpting, drawing, whatever.  Hell, post pics of your cross-stitch work if you want (although we might be polite and not comment on it at all! ;)).  Just remember this is Custom_Hobby's place first and that it is a place to talk about hobby stuff, but that is about it.

There are some proper rules somewhere ... ahah - here: http://www.customhobby.com/forum/index.php?topic=67.0

Thanks for the welcomes, and the cultural summary, Keeper.

I would've got round to the rules soon.  Though I try to avoid inflammatory comments, I have made communicative mistakes in the past.

Though the rant thread is what brought me here, I tend to only go on about my students who wish to remain blissfully ignorant of the value of thought.  Once said, there's not much more that boils my blood.

Now, off to build some models.

Hi

Just been checking the threads. Seems I've been bit remiss & not intro'd myself. Oooops!   :icon_eek:

Started roleplaying in 1983 on my Commodore 64 and Amiga (Forgotten Realms, anybody)? Been Wargaming/Roleplaying with different groups since about 1991. Currently part of a regular group who play couple D20 campaigns, alternating each month between Age of Worms & World's Largest Dungeon. Also part of RPGA's Living Greyhawk campaign, as well as 'Balgin's Night Below'. (Balgin used to live locallly & we used to RP most weekends).

Main characters are:

Garrick: Beguiler 1 (Balgin's campaign)
Oskar Thorinson: Dwarf Clr3 (Boccob, Magic, Trickery) Warmage 4 Mystic Theurge 4 (Living Greyhawk)
Garrick: Human Clr 2 Favoured Soul 1 (World's Largest Dungeon)
Godrek: Dwarf Samurai 1 Ftr 4 Kensai 7 (Age of Worms)

Also have large (12-15,000pts each) of GW epic Imp Guard, Space Marine & Eldar armies, large Gothic Eldar fleet, Warhammer, WH40K, plus loads 1/300 sci-fi models.

Cheers

Howdy everyone. My name is Emily, and I'm from the Huntington area of West Virginia. I'm friends with the guys who run Charcon, which is how I met and talked to the guys of Custom Hobby, via the Charcon website's chatroom. I've also seen the great dioramas at Charcon and pictures of other projects this company has done.

So, here I am, and thanks for the invite to the board!

Good day everyone. I am Hilary. I am simply here to explore the net, to find new circle of friends as well as to find something interesting to do, I am not really into forum sites but I thought trying something new for me might take away my boredom so here I am hoping to find a new hobby for my spare time and hopefully this may lead to addiction in posting just like what my friends said.

Well anyway, let me say something about myself, I am 23 years old and I am currently staying in the Philippines, which is my parents' birth country. I been staying here for almost a year since I am taking up acting classes in the International Academy of Film and Television (IAFT) (http://filmschool.ph/) and so far I am getting bored if I am out of school especially on week ends so I thought finding and hanging out on a forum site during my boring days would be over...

Since we seem to be in a reintroducing mode, I'm Paul, Balgin's friend. Just thought I'd say Hi to all the other gamers & roleplayers out there.

I'm a big sci-fi wagamer fan, same goes for the Living Greyhawk (D&D 3.5) campaign. If anyone wants to chat about BattleTech, GW's Epic Armageddon or things 3.5 just let me know.

Cheers

Since I never did this before, might as well do it now.

I came over here last year after the announcements of the Charcon online contest.

After seeing the reaction to my GenCon entry last year (and to Amy's as well), I wasn't sure I was going to stay, but I guess I'm still here.

Just a note, my preferred scale for models is a bit larger - I normally work with 1:1 scale ( http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c327/east_man/IMGP0539_1000px.jpg for example)   :icon_twisted:

Title: Re: Introduce yourself...

There was another one actually

The picture I posted here (Lorrisa, crouching with the pistol) has been shown on the FOD in a topic suggesting that Kev should sculpt more "Femme Fatales".
http://heresyminiatures.com/forumofdoom/index.php?topic=9736.0

The picture that Keeper links to was in a topic on the FOD about the White Metal "cultist girl". I posted my image with a picture of the casting of the cultist girl with text inspired by the Hartigan line from Sin City (Skinny little Nancy Callahan. She grew up. She filled out.). The model (Kira) is fairly new, that was her 4th or 5th time posing. She's also in the Femme Fatales topic on the FOD (in the red racing suit) and in the "Suzi needs Friends" topic dressed in a "naughty schoolgirl" outfit with a katana and with a pistol.

The image that CH is probably referring to is in my Flickr gallery. It is of former Penthouse Pet Aria Giovanni posing with the same Toy Vault plush Cthulhu that is in the Cultist Girl Grown Up picture. The image was inspired by the Clyde Caldwell painting "Forbidden Embrace" and it (like most of my Flickr gallery) is severely NSFW. That Aria shoot was my first time shooting studio nudes.
Title: Re: Introduce yourself...
Post by: eastman on November 24, 2008, 12:00:03 AM
LOL @ Cheddar.

Eastman you should host your images at Cheddarmongers.org

I have pictures of 1:1 scale models on P-Bucket, Flickr, DeviantArt and on 2 of the model/photographer networking sites (Model Mayhem and SuperShoots). As long as I keep the nudes off of P-Bucket, everything is fine (although DeviantArt, ModelMayhem and SuperShoots all require membership to see nudity). At my current rate, I take about 200-300 photos of topless or nude women for every miniature I actually finish painting.

At the moment, my small scale models are in a gallery on Wyrd. Maybe a gallery over at Cheddarmongers one of these days, after I photo some of my minis (I haven't photographed a completed mini of mine since the "Femme Fatales" contest over at Wyrd).

If I do put images in the Art section of the forum (since I thought the photography section was for minis photography), will there be a problem since most of my galleries contain NSFW images? Very few of the images in my Flickr gallery, for example, are "safe for family forums".

Hello!

I am Curtis from Ramhsackle Games. I post on several forums to do with the hobby!

I found this site the other day, its pretty cool. I like the big selection of different models displayed here. It really nice to see lots of different stuff getting painted in different ways. Great!

I will post up images of models and stuff when I get new things done. Im just about to release a new VSF model over the next week or so, so i will post when its out!

I hope its OK to do this. I have been lurking a bit on this site and like what Ive seen, so I will be posting up here! I sell my models, but am not just going to be hoiking my wares at you like a spam-bot!

Hello friends,
we are couple of enthusiasts who, back in 1997,
started to create scenic pieces for our own gaming table. As time
passed, our skills evolved and the projects became more and more
complex and challenging. In 2007, having reached the high-quality
level, we've decided to start production and casting of highly
realistic terrain features in resin, suitable for wargames and static
modeling.

I'm sorry, but I have to start out on a bad note, I know you will all hate me right away, I hope not, but, I've never in my life seen a group of folks with so much to offer, and no way to contact them. I mean I understand you get spammed and there are idiots but jesus, you would think you would at least have a catch all email address for folks to get pertinent info to you other than just through the forum. That said, hi, I'm darkbreeze, or Leo, as it suits you. I have been collecting miniatures since  1980 and I have more than you. In fact, I have so many rare units that 80% of them I can't find online nomatter where or how I try to find them. They have been collected over the years and most of what I have, I have doubles of. I've been trying to get in touch with custom_hobby because I have ones that from posts I've read he's been looking for. I have an entire 12'x12' room full of boxes that are full of books, magazines, miniatures and other collectables and recently I settled a debt with somebody who has been collecting for thirty years so I came up on a bunch of stuff that is pretty rare but I already have enough of a collection and no more room. So, I thought I'd see what kind of folks besides me collect and play and are just generally ok folks. So I find this place and I think cool, some people like me. But then I can't find a way to  contact anybody except posting and I'm really not much for social posting so I'm like, maybe don't be such a jerk and see what people have to say. So I started cataloging some of the stuff I have and the main reason I did it is because custom_hobby had a post on another site that made me think, maybe you should offer some of this collection to people who are even more passionate about it than you are. Check here http://www.2nd2nunenterprises.com/Miniatures.mht Just the start.

That's just a small part but it wouldn't let me post more and what I really wanted to say was, hi to you all and I'd love to talk with some or all of you. I seldom do that's why I thought it would be cool to but then it was this big hassle of trying to figure out how, yeah, I'm not much for forums, and blogs and such. I'm no noob, I just never got into that part of things. So anyway, I've got stuff from most every genre and would love to talk to whomever is piqued. Or if you just want to tell me I'm an ass, that's ok too. Just don't be anal about it. I really would like to talk to somebody who can help me figure out some of the Phoenix, Heritage and old Citadel stuff. So, until then. BTW, custom_hobby, I've got your Pern dragon and Imperial dragon. Drop me a line or whatever. I'll help you out with your collection. Thanks.

Also, I probably don't have more than a lot of you, or at least some, just thought it would get your attention. It did, didn't it? I'm really not an ass, but they yanked four wisdom teeth today and so I'm on a two shot's of gentleman jack and two vicoden shuffle. Better go through some more of these boxes. Seriously, most of that was yanking your chain, but the collection is not. Neither are the teeth. Look forward to hearing from somebody. Jeez, I finally post something and can't even get a hi, now leave. BTW, I can provide pics of each and every item. And, I was trying to get in touch with whoever runs the stuff of legends because I have some citadel stuff they don't have listed, but they don't have an email addy or a forum. WTF. How secretive are you people. I thought I was bad. Anyhoo, if anybody knows how to reach them, I would like to talk to them about some dark ages historical figures I have that they don't have listed or would be happy to relay it through a third party either way. THanks. Also, if you wan't to contact me directly, hopefully not just to chew my ass, I'm at (edit: email address in profile no need to make it easy for spam  :icon_wink: ) and don't spam me, that will make you even more of a, well, you know.

You can relax, darkbreeze ;) You're quite welcome to join us on this forum and share your thoughts, pictures and lists!

I don't know much about Stuff of Legends, apart from as a user like you, but you might find the Collecting Citadel Miniatures webpages useful if you've got stuff that is Citadel that you can't identify :)
