Title: Player handouts (and stuff)
Post by: Balgin Stondraeg on May 30, 2007, 05:20:37 PM
This is the official art for Naedath Kelden.

I think he'll look more traditional in my game, with actual hair and a propper beard (although he does look quite dejected and run down at the moment).

If people don't like the player handouts (and art and stuff) being stickeid I can put them all in the world lore thread. I think it's better to keep them separate for now 'though.

I've got at least two more player handouts coming soon (and another one or two after that as well).

Abbot Olmaren's Letter to the Church of Theydori:

Obviously replace all reference to Llan with Drechanon, Quorrul with Medhera.

And because Photobucket is rubbish*, maybe this link will work for the full size version (but probably not).

A map of the Isle of Guardian:

Disconcertingly, south is at the top in this map (hence the left hand coast of the island having "the east bay" on it).

Could you either link to a larger version of the letter, or post the text online? I can't read it - the writing's too small.

OFFSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why is this thing so fudge*ing crud*? I tried resizing it which actualy made it smaller and now photobucket won't let me undo the fudge*ing resize bollocks!

Okay, here's a deck plan for The Grey Gull (hopefuly it won't have been resized to the point of illegibility).

I find I'm saving these to my hard disk and then using MS Picture Viewer to look at them, in case anyone else is having a problem.

When the company's website was still up, they put up versions of the floorplans with a combat grid on them (so we might find those useful later too). They haven't updated their website since 2004 and it went down a month or two ago. I can't remember if they did combat grids for the second half of the adventure and I didn't get them in time or if they simply didn't do them at all.

Okay, now to clarify things a bit......

The second floorplan for the Grey Gull (the one on the right) is not actualy below decks, it's the interior of the forecastle and quarterdeck. Below deck is a big hollow area where they store stuff (yes, the ship really is that basic). They have two fixed hatches with stairs to go below deck but for actual moving cargo they just lever up sections of the deck and lower stuff down by hand (ropes and bits of cloth and stuff). Yes, Captain Ableford knows some of the more recent ships have hatches, ramps, winches and stuff, but he simply can't afford them and he likes to keep the men busy (and they don't mind much).

The adventure came with a copy of it on pdf so I copied and pasted all the pictures into windows Paint. Admitedly some of them had to be done in two or three pieces and then put back together.

Views of Guardian Abbey from Without.

Guardian Abbey viewed from the southwest

The road runs up from the south, along the southwestern wall and to the main gate from where it also leads off to the northwestern watchtower in the distance.

Guardian Abbey viewed from the southeast

and the north

This gives a good view of the main entrance and surrounding areas from another angle.

and the northwest

Good view of the open space between the long side building and the main building (and shows the covered walkway between them).

According to the map key (which I haven't posted yet) those are indeed drains. They probably drain the lawn and also keep the well fed as well.

If they're not drains then they're wooden crates and boxes (unlikely as there's a toolshed so they wouldn't leave stuff out here) or stone plinths (like a birdtable or a sundial).

So what is it we have to do with this? Work out a way to press a button in each row without any adjacent buttons being pushed?

I'd forgotten it came with instructions :p.

The silver button is considered "pressed" by default. I'm considering putting numbers down one side and letters along the top for reference. Basicaly..... you need to press seven more buttons and each pressed button cannot line up with another one verticaly, horizontaly or diagonaly. If you're lucky someone who already knows how to open it is still alive.

I believe I've worked out a solution, using nothing more than Excel and the power of my mind ;)

I think if you compare this with the handout an dinstructions, you'll see that the red buttons are the ones that need to be pushed.  Of course, I don't know if there are any other solutions, but I don't think so, since this solution is symetric in the 180 degree rotation.

Good work mate! the fun ny thing was since Aurum wouldn't have been either able and/or interested in it, I didn't even bother to think about the solution. When i first saw it I thought about using excel too :icon_wink:

Without being smug about it, I find Sudoko to be like wordsearch puzzles, its just a matter of following the rules, so this was easy, once I found the 10 mins to work through the potentialities of it.

Raul wasn't too interested either, but my brain wouldn't let it go! :D Damn my OC tendancies!

Yeah, just count all the numbers that line up with a sqaure and you've suddenly only got two or three numbers that could possibly be in it. Sometimes you'll miss a double negative but I tend to get about 18 out of 20 su doku's right and enjoy doing it :).

I nearly edited that but couldn't be bothered in the end. I'd made a nice little "the tunnel outside the door" map and then I noticed Rogan was close enough to see the light from the room beyond. I couldn't be bothered to try and hide that little bit on the right but you can safely ignore it for now.

She's meant to be calm and serene but in at least one of these pictures she comes across as arrogant (instead of humble).
