Title: Cost of Firearms
Post by: Keeper on December 10, 2008, 11:15:37 AM
Hey chaps,

I'm currently drafting some generic rules inspried by Stargate, and I need some broad brush-stroke costs for firearms.  Since the closet I've ever come to a real gun is seeing security at airports, from a distance, can anyone give me any advice on this, or link me to somewhere that might help?

Ta :tip-hat:

I once bought one issue. Felt very embarassed about it. Worse than going into the store to buy an "adult" magazine  :icon_wink:
Same thing with body builder magazines. I almost feel it necessary to mask myself to unrecognizability when buying those... Or at least mumble the excuse "I'm a sculptor. It's for reference..." And I feel that I get the look "Yeah, yeah, haven't we heard THAT excuse before" :icon_redface:

Online search helps too.

Yeah, I did that, but couldn't find anywhere that actually lists any retail prices.  just reviews and opinions.

Didn't know if that is because the law is against it, or if I was just looking in the wrong places, or using the wrong keywords, or what.  I guess my Google-Fu is weak going into the weekend :(

What weapons are you after?

PS gotta remember full auto ones are not legal to sell.

I don't think I mind.  Common military/paramilitary rifles and handguns I guess.  Heavier weapons prices would be nice too, but I figured they wouldn't just be listed on the internet.

What I want is broadly realistic prices that I can translate into my resource points system, as I've no idea where to start.

again. G&A as a ref book its unbeatable, if there by chance isnt a perticular gun in it, just call it rare and up the psedo price on what you think it would cost X10

Merc 2000 was always good for the rare items.

My Google-Fu returned this afternoon:

http://www.impactguns.com/store/

Thanks for the hints, though - I just want ball-park prices so that their in-game valuations don't seem completely mad to people who know better!

Hi

Try D20 Modern RPG books. Eg Spycraft.

Some of our local RP group are part of Queen & Country, a 'Living D20' campaign, and might be a good reference.

Hope this helps

Thanks Paul :D  That helps quite a lot.  I've recently got a few Modern D20 books, too, and they're helping!

Hi

Glad to be of help. Might get a game myself at Conception. (Next week). Though it's not really a priority for me.

Played a scenario few years ago. North Koreans up to usual Nuclear expansion tricks. Mission was to HALO jump into N. Korea & report on guard patterns. Got a bit too realistic when one member pointed out website with actual satellite pics of our target. (Yes- Korea was in news).   :icon_eek:
Can't say how he knew............

Life's a bit too realistic already...

Cheers

I'm currently thinking along the lines of playing some games of colonial-era British vs. aliens, so I don't have to worry too much about the reality of it! :D

I find modern games a bit too close to the bone, although I will admit to looking on Google Earth yesterday for some suitable coastline maps for a fantasy raiding campaign.  Like viking raiders, but with orcs and dwarves too.  Yep.  Definately no danger of reality getting to me there!

Hi

Might have to bite my lip  - next week we're off to a roleplaying convention (Conception) for 5 days. Sharing chalet with many Spycraft followers. No doubt I'll get roped in.

Ah well. Still  - loads of D&D fantasy going on!  :)

Let us know how the game goes...

Cheers

I had to miss the game last night, but I got a report back saying that the Elves got pummelled by the Dwarves and the Orcs, who then turned on each other.  The Dwarves were victorious :)

When we start playing proper I've been given the Dwarf faction, so I'm pretty pleased! :D

Enjoy your Spycraft, Paul!
