Anyone got a good colour for modern brickwork? GW recipe please..
Yeah I know it's a stupid question
Undercoat a dark chocolate brown
heavy drybrush a deep red brown ( I use plum red from Miniature paints)
drybrush a chestnut over the top
Drybrush a terracotta pink/brown, add some drybrush splashes of orange
light drybrush flesh
sorry can't give GW colours as I don't use them
Coat d'arm Brick Red base, ink with very thin black, drybrush a lighter shade of red like Red Gore
Coat d'arm Brick Red is a mid red slightly blackened :icon_wink:

Which brick are you after? There's at least a 1000 different ones in the UK alone :icon_wink:
If you're painting "generic" red brick, based on the bajillion bloody housing models we do 95% of the time at work, I'd go for a GW Tanned Flesh or Terracotta basecoat, wet- and then dry-brushed with something like Elf Flesh, Bleached Bone, Vomit Brown, Dwarf Flesh .... possibilities are endless, really. You'd be amazed at how fussy clients can be about representing a *particular* brick colour :icon_ermm:
If you want to really go to town on brick, start with a Tallarn Flesh + Bleached Bone undercoat - to represent the mortar courses - then overbrush your base "red" onto the individual bricks to leave mortar showing through. Work your way up through highlights to taste, and glaze the mortar with very thin black+brown ink in patches.
For ultra-anorak brickwork, take a look at something like this brick selector (http://www.ibstock.com/highlights-brick-selector.asp?#) from one of the suppliers we use. You can start getting into variegated bricks, random splotches of colour, engineering brick DPCs, whatever....
ta folks!
just seen this one.
dark flesh + white to highlight or terracotta + white to highlight.
or that mecharite red in the foundation paint range.
I use dark flesh and sunburst yellow.
