Alright -- I'm throwing down a challenge.
Who is ready to paint up the Darksword Hawkman?!? I know several of you have him. Bring it on!
(I'll be out of town this weekend, so I'm thinking 3 weeks?)
I'm in. I'll be done sooner...
I've already got a headstart on him (!@#$%@%^ Zenithal !@#$%@) but he might end up in the stripping jar... :icon_neutral:
The following to be said in the manner of a bluff colonel: "What's that you say? You'll have finished it before the deadline?! Impossible, man!" :icon_razz:
3 weeks is great!
:icon_evil_laugh:
Prepped and ready to be undercoated. When it stops :swear: raining.
That'll be tomorrow then!
Alright, 50 minutes into the challenge and it looks like Gi6ers is already done.
Mike, Balgin, are you in on this one??
Shall we declare gi6ers the winner? :icon_razz:
Do you have to be fast AND good?

I'll ask my future wife when she gets back from work :icon_cool:
Is this the Carry On thread? lol :icon_wink:
Started it: based, just the cape and metallics to do..
Oh, is this the blow-by-blow? :icon_eek:
Oo-er! :icon_eek:
Apart from the eyes it's really easy to paint, I'm quite suprised! Looking forward to seeing the different approaches personally.
I'll send Cheddar the pics when I'm done as I'm getting married in 3 weeks then I'm off to africa for a week.
:clap2:
Excellent! Send us pictures! (Family, Africa, stuff like that!)
Enjoy.
Hawkman is a beautiful piece, very well crafted, and the casting quality is first rate (even better than some HF stuff, in my opinion)
Yeah, watch the mould line on the right arm folks (or just cover it up after priming like me). The beak on mine was a little miscast but was easily fixed.
Am I late? When did this one start?
Congrats on the wedding Matt!
Married??!! don't do it man... if you get married you'll never be unhappy again!
You need the angst and pent up frustration to get the best painting :icon_wink:
Good luck with the wedding mate (6 weeks to go for me!).
thanks guys, wedding should be fun, but this will be amazing! http://www.madikwehills.com/ (http://www.madikwehills.com/) and http://www.mateyasafari.com/ (http://www.mateyasafari.com/)
I'll take stacks of pics and bore you all stupid when we return..7 nights in 2 5 Star lodges with 2 game drives per day.
It is a beautiful piece; the only annoying part of prep was the very obvious mould line on his right arm and lotsa flash on the quillions of his sword. His cloak is a work of art, and his face is much better than it looks on the website.
Oh... and congrats! :icon_razz:
Good luck on your wedding :occasion14:
thanks again!
Anyway, have finished this one, where do I send/post my pics?

Both very nice place IIRC.. it was about 15 years ago I went though. Take lots of film or batteries and extra cards for your camera... I took over 400 photos with proper film so I guess it would have been a few thousand with digital
Matt sent me his hawkman pics, so the bar is pretty high for this competition!
Anybody else joining in on the fun?
Still haven't undercoated him yet! Bloody weather.
anyone else joining in or is it just me, Fabian and Cheddar?
I would but I don't have the mini. :0(

Gugh.... I still haven't packed your box yet! Does this mean another trip to the LGS?
so far:
Olley flame-sworded demon
Olley charon montage
5 citidel villagers
1 blisterpack reaper townsfolk 2 (beggar, strumpet, blacksmith)
Hawkman is another $6; do you have anything else to ante into the trade? :icon_twisted:
I wanted to get in but I don't have the time. I will just watch from the sidelines on this one.

No thankyou, David, I think I'vr taken enough of your time so far with shopping trips, by the time we've exchanged, I don't think I'd get it painted up ready.
Thanks anyway.

Me
Cheddarmonger
Fabian
anyone else?
Just to let you know David your box went in the post yesterday.
Wasn't Balgin in on this?
I think Balgin chickened out. :icon_scratch: dunno why, its a nice piece, and a friendly competition.
by the way; Bruenor's box (close to 1 pound of metal!) went out today, on its way across the merry seas...
I hope you didn't find everything he wants. :icon_wink: It will make it harder for me to find good trades for him :icon_suspicious:
Come on balgin you know you should get into this one.

was there a hawkman in there?
Nope. Sorry. :offtopic:
But there's some really cool Reaper stuff in there!
I still have my Reaper undead Werewolf to paint yet and it's a great looking figure well worth getting. :occasion14:
Too much to chose from that i want to paint so i will get the Werewolf finished first. :icon_wink:
Richard -- have you moved recently, or do I have your correct address? I got something for you. :icon_suspicious:

I did go and check my painted figure's a second ago.... :icon_ermm:
Remember this time to cut some air hole's, the smell was bad with the last one. :icon_wink:
It's still the same address.

Oh, no, poor little Froofroo!
Need grub so i will have to move again... :icon_sad:
And a cuppa which goes without saying. :icon_wink:
Sorry, I've been feeling really run-down over the last couple of weeks... when's the precise deadline for Hawk-boy to be finished?
A week or so left I think, no probs mate, get him done when you can.
So are we all done?
I'll have a look when I get back....
:icon_suspicious:
I'm sure I'll be done by the time you get back... yeah, that's it...
I'm going to have to bow out I'm afraid, I started him but have had a lot on the go - I haven't done any painting for a month now :icon_sad: Sorry guys! :icon_neutral:
I've done lots of painting, just most of it has ended up in the stripping jar!
Come on Chris you can do it. Get back in there and paint the little bugger.

I haven't had to strip any figure i have painted in age's, I think it was mostly because i was learning the basics of skin that i stripped so much and also when i improved some and had to strip all the half painted figure's as i could paint them better.
That saying i did strip one the other week as it have fallen and the arm and shield came off and also it was an old paint job and looked cack! anyway.
It was better to strip it than goto the trouble of fixing it.
It was "Mikal the turd killer" and i seem to have lost his picture's as well. :icon_scratch:
I'm sure Mike can finish the hawkman by the time I get around to finishing him. I think this is his second "bath"
I am sure I could too If Mom hadn't come down with shingles. Now I am sitting here with calamine lotion and cotton balls when I wish I was painting or making terrain.
So who's actually going to paint it then...?
I am going to see if I can stop scratching long enough to get mine done. Who else is in?
Still working on mine, but those foundation paints look like they'll help with all the cloth and layering... slowly but surely
are we still doing this?
I hope so, I think it will be something fun for the forum.
Thought you'd all be finished by now.
Did you do one?
Nah, but I'd have loved to do one, just for the sake of being with you guys, but I don't own the mini.
Was rather looking forward to seeing the top notch paint jobs you all come up with.
I love these challenges, seeing the different schemes used, really brings out a mini's potential.
I finally posted the poll! Vote early, vote often! May the best hawk win!! :cm
Ok after going through the thread ignore my post in the voting thread.

:whatchutalkinbout:
Lol, when I saw the poll I asked in the thread if anyone else was supposed to be in the comp. I then came back and re-read the original thread and answered my own question. I then changed my post.
