Title: Grey WIP
Post by: Bodhi on May 01, 2007, 08:43:49 AM
Noone is quite sure why they do it...
The most plausible theory is that they are information gatherers and haven't got a whole lot of space aboard their spacecrafts. So they discard the bodies of their abductees as unnencessary weight...

Nice work on the upper body. Though I'm not sure I see what he's doing, but it looks like he's got tentacle arms stuck through holes in the head, have I got it right? is it based on a sci-fi universe or is it your own concept? :abduct:

The thought is that he has tubes and cables sticking out from the throat of the head. The head is alive and these are supposed to be attached to some sort of storage piedestal where the live head and it's brain can be used as a sort of living information bank in a biological computer.
So kind of alien technology. The tubes and cables hang down as a support so that the actual figure floats a bit above the ground.

The concept is just mine but the idea is sort of inspired by "Mars Attacks" and the insane experiments the aliens do there.

It's for the Hasslefree contest (if it gets done)

I like the concept, I am glad you went with something "different"

So what are your plans for it now?

I've gotten that face to look more like a real face (the one he is carrying) so bit by bit I guess I'll fix all the other parts as well. Hopefully he'll look more lifelike in the end. The basic pose stays just as it is.

I like the pose. Do you have a pic from another angle?

So, worked some more of it and I also came up with a couple of other ideas (creepy enough for you  :icon_wink:?):

The lifecycle of a grey:

Humans, being the way they are, tend to view the humanoid stage as the highest stage in the development of a grey.
My research has shown that nothing could be more wrong.
This is how it goes:

1. The cocoon: This is basically the gestation stage of your normal "grey" in its larvae stage.

2. The drone: This is the basic worker unit of the greys. It's your normal humanoid grey. Humans often mistakingly assume that their large skulls mean a large brain and thus a superior intellect. The "skull" is not really a skull though but the part of the grey that will develop into the next stage - the queen. Most greys never reach that stage and the queen remains dormant. It is unclear why. Perhaps not all greys have the required gene?
Humanoid Greys are NOT intelligent. It is doubtful if they are even sentient. They are totally controlled by the queens of which there are very few fully developed in any given colony of greys.
The part that looks like a skull will develop during the lifetime of SOME greys and start feeding of the hostgrey until it has grown sufficiently large and strong enough to detach itself from it's host (which will by then have shrivelled up into a very thin skeletal shape.) it will then find a different host of another species. At this stage the queen requires an intelligent being to further develop and will attach itself to a sentient host (such as a human).

3. The fully developed parasitcal queen:
At this stage she looks like a cross between a giant tick and the creature in "Alien" that attaches itself to someones face. She will sit on a sentient beings head and along its spine. The sentient being will become more or less a zombie under the control of the queen. (So that's an idea for a sculpt as well)
After a while the queen will have reached the egglaying phase and she will lay her eggs in the sentient host through tubes that protrude from her body under the skin of the host. The eggs will develop into larvae that consume the muscle mass of the host and eat it's way through the hosts skin. At this stage the host will look much like some abomination out of "The thing" and the queen will move unto the next host leaving the larvae to consume the host. Once the larvae have consumed the host they will enter the cocoonn stage.

And that concludes the lifecycle of a grey. It is unclear for how long a queen can survive but rumors persist of queens that have reached at least a thousand years. It is likely that the lifecycle has extinguished some other unknown sentient species on the homeworld of the greys which has forced the queens to search elsewhere for adequate hosts.

The ironic thing is that queens are pretty weak and easily defeated but since everybody keeps thinking of them as unsentient parasites (if they even encounter one) all resistance is usually directed against the drones which far to often has been the downfall of sentient civilisations throughout the universe.
