How about we pick a mini and have a friendly contest on here, mini is the same for everyone, any conversions allowed...prize would be an enormous sense of satisfaction...

Judged by poll?

Closing date - end of Feb/March?

Mini has to be something that is easily purchased in UK or US...

Have to decide what type as well, mordern, sci-fi or fantasy.
GW is the most easy to get hold of....

Might be best if people put foward a mini to do and where to get it from in the UK and US and we do a pole for which to do.

How 'bout Libby on Tigress?  That would give motivation to paint that incredible piece!

Can we wait until the non limited version is out then please.

When I buy it i want it for gaming..... so I would prefer a metal version to resin for durability.

The Billy the Kid figure? Or maybe something from SteveB. I am all for a little friendly comp. There could be prizes involved too :drevil: (I am sure I can drum something up). The comp would should be limited to members of the forum and lets shoot for the end of march to give everyone time to get in on it. So what do ya think...?
Title: Re: CH Contest?
Post by: Bungle on January 22, 2007, 02:12:06 PM
I suggested something new so the prolific painters won't have done it yet, and can have some fun.

End of march gives me time after my exams finish.

Ok so we need an official rules write up and then make it a sticky. Anything you don't know just put TBA and we can fill in the rest before the end of the week. Any volunteers?
Title: Re: CH Contest?

Ok:

Rules: Usual contest rules apply, the management reserve the right to change the rules at any time.

You've got 'til the end of March. You must be a member of the forum to enter. Decision will be final, and if you don't like it please feel free to whine like a small child. Please feel free to ask any questions.  :icon_neat:

Dunno..... Custom Hobby Inaugural Painting stuff   CHIPs?

but we need to decide on the miniature.

I have suggested three new releases..... please make other nominations.

I will go with the general consensus. I will see what I can do about the miniature, I need to email a few people.

i say do the billy the kid mini or the intrepid young woman.

you don't see much painted black scorpion on the fod ( or anywhere else TBH).

suggested rules:

use the base it comes on,

conversions allowed.

max 200k image (or 100k if bandwidth is tight)

another forum votes for it (say the FOD).

have a start date and then 1 month after it closes for voting.

A figure i want to paint is Steves scarecrows (not the limited edition figure, but you could include it) or even the Zombie Munchkins.

Title: Re: CH Contest?
Post by: Custom_Hobby on January 22, 2007, 08:11:28 PM
But where would we get a bunch of limited edition scarecrows? I am all for Steve's miniatures. Maybe we should plan the contest and hold off a little while until Steve is up and sculpting again.
Title: Re: CH Contest?
Post by: Dr.Evil on January 22, 2007, 08:16:09 PM
Andy is selling two of Steves scarecrows from his ZO range and the limited edition one is what they were based on.
Title: Re: CH Contest?
Post by: Custom_Hobby on January 22, 2007, 08:53:33 PM
Do we have a winner? All contestants can get them from Andy. That will solve the the what and where issues. Now we just need to nail down the when.

I wanted to add no posting the pictures until the competition is over. It keeps people from getting discouraged if they see one that is better than theirs.

Title: Re: CH Contest?
Post by: Bungle on January 23, 2007, 01:58:51 PM
No clear winner yet.

I see some munchkins by Ben are the miniatures he is proudest of.... so asking him to paint more to take part might be unfair... although I do have some I have plans for sitting her in bare metal.

Scarecrows I have none... yet

Billy the kid .. no one should have yet due to the problems casting.

No one has shown any painted versions of the other BS figure .. Alien or intrepid girl.

Thats why I suggested new figures so it could be something new for all of us....

No Hasslefree stuff is brand new at the moment.. maybe by the end of the month.

And no one suggest ghouls....  :tsktsk: I love them but.

It might be a nice touch to do something with Adams miniatures. There really have not been a lot of examples of his pieces online. And the most of the other companies are very well represented. I would love to use something from Steve.

There is also the Scarab Lord figure. They are very easy for me to get a hold of. They are roughly 70mm tall (I have the exact measurments at home) and retail for $49.99. being they I can get them from a very good friend I would be  able to get them for $35 for anyone getting into the competition. Let me know what you think of it.

Bah; Scarab Lord is too big, and ornate.

If it were something simple, folks could be real creative with it.

LOL

master mould is made, and a few of the 3 have been cast from it as test pieces, I need to sort a couple of bits out before they go in the production mould (base sizes and such so they will fit on top of slotta bases)

I am hoping for the rest in a few weeks so I have 12 to release, in one go - planning for a March release. But this is  :offtopic:

Voting on the figure selectin seems to be increaseing. Does anyone have strong dislikes from the selection?

Yup, that's Adam's paintjob, top stuff, I like that he paints too, it means he is thinking that way when he sculpts. I think SteveB sculpts minis that are painter friendly too, probably for the same reason.
Title: Re: CH Contest?
Post by: SteveB on January 25, 2007, 09:21:26 AM
Well, I used to always do studio paint jobs myself so sculpting them painter-unfriendly would just be shooting myself in the foot...
