Title: F.A.Q book by Andrea Miniatures
Post by: Fabian on April 14, 2007, 12:50:19 PM
I took this out of the library the other day, and highly recommend it; although as it costs £30 (!) I wouldn't buy it in a hurry. It has lots of very clear clos up photos on how to work with oils, enamels, an acrylics; I know lots of this sort of thing is free on the web, but personally I like having it in book form to flip through at my leisure. Ther are loads of fab photos from Euro-painters to drool over, and there are elements of wry humour such as this on the section on competitions:

"Just as in any endeavor, in the miniature world there exists what we name as 'living legends' that, fortunately, have the good taste not to participate in competitions, but, instead, act as judges sponsored by the organizers"

Reading the way that was phrased made me laugh a lot.

On the minus side, there are typos and errors in labelling of some of the paints, but it's still a good book.

I prefer to have refence items in book form as well. This is the first I have heard of it.

I moved this over to reviews

I prefer book form as well, more handy and you don't have to be near a PC or dvd player.  :icon_wink:

The Darkson designs book and the DVD I got a while ago are enough for me, haven't tried half of what they suggest as it is.

Yeah books are more convenient. That's why Mat Gubser did such a service to mankind by providing his little sculpting booklet. Plenty of help to be found on the internet but very little in bookform. Mostly it's larger scale sculpting and such.
I use his scaleguide for getting human proportions right almost daily. I never could get the one on the web to print out in the correct size...

I have lots of books on mini painting, and I was gonna pick up the Andrea fantasy and female painting books, possibly the Foundry book too.  They're cheap(er) on Amazon.com.
