Title: Avatars of War miniatures
Post by: Balgin Stondraeg on July 10, 2009, 06:12:03 PM
I own 3 of these now and I must say I'm disappointed. The quality of the sculpting is very good. The quality of the casting, on the other hand, is a bit of a let down. Details are less defined than they could be. Some are almost lost completely. The surface of the metal is rough and in some places it's verging on porous.

Most importantly, parts don't fit very well. Most joints are flat on flat - not a problem. But when arms don't fit in sockets and cloaks have gaps where they connect it's a tad annoying (especialy when you'tre trying to work out why some parts are separate in the first place - like the end of a gun barrel).

I'll get them painted up eventually but I thought I'd better post this here and see if anyone else has had the same problems with them.

Did you email them and see if it was just a bad lot?

I didn't buy them all in one batch. I got one recently and I've had the other two for three or four months now.

Also the painted photo's in their painting forum looked bad, as if people couldn't paint them very well (or half the details from the photo's of the greens were missing). It's the axe arm not fitting on the Thunderlord that's the most annoying one as the others are all negligible.

Hey Balgin I sent Felix an email and he is happy to help fix this issue for you, he wants you to email him at info@avatars-of-war.com. He let me know that he will gladly replace all three minis.

I'll send an email sometime tomorrow as now I need to have a bath then head out for tonight's gaming. I suspect it's mostly old moulds and the elf and barbarian are good enough to use. The dwarf's the main one that's suffered a loss of detail.

Email sent. Now I'll see if I can get 'round to updating one of my games today. I even atatched some helpful photographs to illustrate the awkward joints (and dodgey eye socket).
