The titan and the total display are amazing!! What did you build it out of?

In short, anything I could find!

The main body is built from card and plastic, the 'demon' is made from a couple of old mcfarlane dragons who very kindly donated body parts. heck I even used the cap from the end of the superglue I was building it with for the psi cannon barrel!

In-****ing-creadible

I am compleatly against anything in power armour and the things that go with them, but this is 100% breathtaking. Ever thought of doing an ork one?  :icon_wink:

I think I've said it beofre, Bulldog, but this (and your other monsterous vehicles!) are still awesome :)

How did you get the metal effect paintowkr?  It is metallic paint, or some uber-fancy NMM work?

The more tips the better Bulldog :icon_wink: Like did you make a mould for all of those skulls?
Title: Re: More 40k Titans and vehicles than you can shake a stick at!
Post by: BulldogUK on June 30, 2008, 05:23:42 PM
Very very simple techniques Keeper as you would expect from me!

Never been a big fan of the NMM, call me old fashoined but I always think metal should be shiny and metalic!

The metal effect uses metallic paints, only TWO colours! Base black, then build up from tamiya metallic grey to tamiya chrome silver. Same goes for the gold, two colours over black base although for the life of me I can't think which two golds I used now, gonna have to start writing things down, I am pretty sure there is a hole i my noggin and all the sueful stuff is starting to leak out!

Sure did Mike, I just copied a bunch of other items from my reaver too, lots of adeptus badges and the crew figures as I intend to give mr stompy a major over-haul sometime soon, cockpit detail, the works. Purely for personal use of course, I don't do commissions or make wonga from my models so I can feel guilt free when I see a decent part or widget which I think may come in handy for future builds, it's straight into the bits box for replication!

BulldogUK is also refitting one if his older titans here are his posts on that:

Stompy and me go back a long long way, I originally built him early 90's when I was a mere scratch-building hatch ling. He was later dragged out of the garden shed and rushed into service for the launch of Apocalypse. I finally got him back to the Titan Planetary workshops (OK, my spare room) to do him a  little more justice

I will probably end up totally re-painting him after all the detail work is finished but I will cross that bridge when I come to it

Just finished pimping over the main weapons, the new Gatling blaster and Volcano cannon. As you can see from the Titan crew stood on the Gantry, they are whoppers!

Also pictured them next to 'Mjolnir' the New FW Reaver Titan, even he doesn't look so impressive when he is stood next to the mega Gatling cannon!

On another positive I am managing to make a little space and clear most of the crud* lying around in my various bits boxes by slapping everything I can find onto the re-fit

I knew saving those pot noodle tubs was a good idea  ;)

Did a little more work on the titan today. all the weapons are finished (not painted of course) and started working on the carapace. Not going too OTT on anything above its head as once stood on the table its about 8 feet from the floor and way up in the clouds!

This is the re-fitted barrage launcher,

Teddy bear eyes make the perfect missile tips, something slightly disturbing about that!

I totally re-built the Vortex missile, true Blue Peter styling using a couple of old pop bottles and some bottle caps  ;D

the original eagle was a bit naff but it was going to be too messy trying to remove it so I opted the option 2, cover it as much as possible!
I have also added studding to the edging pieces

Done some more work on the big guy.

Torso detailed up, also added a few bits of piping and more gantries to the underside of the carapace, was a little plain and it gives it more of an industrial look now.

Also finished detailing the head and cockpit detail. The 'eyes' actually have LED's fitted so they shine green and red, look quite funky, the torso also carries 4 LED spotlights to light up the battlefield before him and finally the cockpit screens and controls will cast light over the interior of the command deck. I will get some decent pics of the lights when the Titan is painted for best effect. Bulked the neck out with ribbed piping and made skull cap removable so the interior can be viewed

Decided it might be novel to keep track of the void shields by actually building the generators and using magnets to secure them to the carapace, this way they can be removed when knocked out and re-applied when powered up again..boys dn their toys! LOL

just putting finishing touches to the legs and I will assemble for a complete photo, after that its dis-assemble and paint time!

OK, finally found some time this weekend to knock together those additional weapon systems for Odin!

Lot of people have 'complained' about him being way too big for a Warlord, personally I say if your gonna build a Titan, build it as big as you can, clues sort of in the name  ::)

Anyhow, seemed a good enough excuse to build something!

Odin shall soon be upgraded to 'Warbringer - Titan Hunter' class, I will work out some in depth fluff as things progress but basically your looking at a behemoth of a machine specifically created to hunt and destroy enemy Titans.

In real terms this means a load out of 4 carapace and 2 arm weapons, maybe a couple of extra void shields and structure points. I figure it would also be feasible to contain barrack quarters in the huge carapace for up to 3 space marine squads (preferably assault to allow rapid deployment to ground level defence)

Roughly a machine that sits between the Warlord and Imperator but designed specifically to go out and kick some machine butt rather than sit back and provide support like the Warmonger class

In modelling terms I will replace the two AA mounts on the front carapace with 2 new weapon systems. 2 x Triple barrel superturbo laser destructors. A much larger and more powerful version of the weapon mounted on the Reaver Titan specifically aimed at overloading enemy shields allowing for killing blows to the unprotected machine beneath. Although these are some of the smaller weapons wielded by Odin you may note that they are still as big as a Reaver Titan....yikes!

Anyhow, progress pics below, will update once they are painted and mounted

Raided the bits box again, empty tamiya thinner tubs, some old make-up bottles (erm, the good ladies, not mine I hasten toi add!) and the tops from the sprays I use amongst other things went into the build......waste not want not!

Anyhow, sprinkled a little paint over the Super Turbo Laser Blasters, nothing too fancy they are after all stuck right up there on the top of the Carapace!

Not able to face one more piece of chocolate over Easter I decided to go back over the FW Reaver Titan. The initial paint job was a little rushed as I was a little excited and wanted to see my first large FW model finished! Anyhow, this weekend I worked it over head to toe, lined details, highlighted a few areas, added a couple of mechanicus symbols to the back of the weapons, little things which I missed on the first pass but niggled at me over time

Not sure if many of the changes actually show that well on the digi pics but with the mk1 eyeball in my opinion it defo looks the dogs danglers now, hell even I am pleased with it!

One thing chaps, was toying with the idea of adding a little weathering to the feet, similar to the sort on my tanks, dust and a little splashed mud...what ya think?

Few pics, lots more on Mjolnir's webpage Mjolnir Reaver Titan (http://www.tanksandtrolls.co.uk/40KReaver%20Mars%20Pattern.htm) latest pics at the top of the page just after the story

Oh, for those that asked the blue was achieved using Tamiya colours X-3 Royal blue, X-4 Blue, XF-8 Flat blue and XF-18 Medium blue. Layed onto a black base in that order. I dont really have an airbrush techinique, very casual I would say, Pray n spray  ;D Never believed in wasting too much time on one model so all I can say is go with what your comfortable with, use more of the final medium blue if your going for a more faded look. The gold is created using a range of paints called 'miniature paints' again onto a base of black use Bronze then old Gold in that orde. If you want to line a little detail in when your done do it with a brush using a mixture of GW gold and Mithril silver

Anyhow, how's a Reaver Melta cannon in a morning from a matchbox sound?

Don't really need it but I couldnt resist the title and wasting a perfectly good matchbox!

Here are the base components, 1 x matchbox, 1 x used prittstick tube, 1 x tamiya thinners lid...and we're away! (original turbo laser shown for scale)

Basic shape has been put together
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/Meltacannon3.jpg)

The heat shield isnt as complicated as it looks, simply measure out the slots, drill a hole at both ends then using the knife cut out the middles, quite theraputic!

All done! The heat shield will not be glued in place until painted, final pic is my favourite stage, undercoated to bring all those weird and wonderful parts together to form the illusion
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v429/BulldogUK/Meltacannon7.jpg)

Will post some pics once I have slapped some paint on it. Built totally from scrud* items, I estimate taking paint into account it cost something like 37p, not a bad saving on the FW original!

I have just recieved my new hot foam modelling tools Gareth so Anthea Turner should be afraid....very afraid  ;D

Looking forward to having a play with them, will probably warm up on some basic scenery possibly some 1/1 scale 40k weapons with the culmination being a full size dreadnought or probably more interesting for you gareth a 6ft bio titan grappling with Odin...it's all there in my head, pretty excited at the possibilty of lightweight/cheap bulking agent for the larger projects, woohoo! just.......need.........room.......and.......time.......

Anyhooo, in the meantime, slapped a little paint on that melta cannon, left off the cables so it allows me more weapon option rather than being fixed to a particular side. Gotta admit I checked out the stats, thought it was a little pants....then I saw the 10 inch template....Sweet Monkey Jesus!

Bulldog, they're all just so freaking awesome I'm drooling on my keyboard.

And I've just got me a brand new dial action airbrush and compressor, so I especially appreciate knowing what colours you used for the blues and metallics :D

Can I ask if you remember how you did the flameS?  Did you use a mask, or just freehand it with a bursh or paintbrush?

All the building stuff done, majority of it made from foam and coated with a light-weight plaster. The fingers are movable to allow me to play around with a few 'crushed enemies of the Emperor"!

Hopefully have some time to throw some paint on it next week and get some pics of it in situ on Odin, until then here's a few pics

All the joints on the fingers/wrist, elbow and shoulder move to allow me to strike the pose

That little dot just under the elbow joint is a 40k marine!

Claw stood next to the FW Reaver.......it's BIG!

I have slapped a little paint on the claw, hopefully get it test fitted sometime this week and get some pics, fingers crossed I won't have to fiddle about with the joints, built everything away from the Titan so everything was done with guestimation!

Made a couple of seals up to add a little interest, they are attached via magnets allowing them to be positioned depending on the more dynamic poses possible with the claw.

The whole thing is 2 feet from fingertip to shoulder, the actual glove itself isn't far off a 1/1 scale marine powerfist IMO (check out my hand next to the model) which has got my brain comptenplating all sorts of crazy ideas!!!

think it took about a week, it was one of those projects that just seemed to build itself once I got started though, lots of fun!

Anyhow, Odin got his thumpy thing fitted the other day, few pics below, usual stuff over on his page Odin's thumpy thing (http://www.tanksandtrolls.co.uk/40KWarlordTitanNEW.htm)

It's fully posable having articulation in fingers, thumb, wrist, elbow shoulder (2 of em!) so should have some fun striking the pose when I have made up some 'crushed enemy models'!

Ok, be honest, is mounting a devastator squad ON a Titan entering the realms of power gaming? Like you wouldn't if you could! LOL

Pretty sure this may constitute an additional 3+ save!

Deep Strike Crimson Ultrawings style!

Next up, replace that vortex missile with a plasma blaster

Been working on the the final weapon for Odin, this one is to replace the carapace mounted Vortex missile (which I was never overly chuffed with)

Super mega blaster bringer of death plasma cannon!

Hopefully will get some paint on it and mount it early next week

Looks great! Are you going to add anything else to dress it up a bit?
