the joy of flow enhancer :icon_rr:
Flow enhancer rocks :icon_thumleft:
I think I neeed to run out and buy some flow enhancer.
By the way, has anyone mentioned flow enhancer? :icon_whistling: :icon_tongue:
I split this into its own topic since It was heading off topic. I figure we can discuss there merrits of it here.
Anyone reccommend any brands?
Well I use Daler-Rowney, which I can't complain about.
Daler Rowney for me too, is it just paint without the colour pigments?
No it reduces the surface tension of paint, if you are doing thin layers or washes it helps.
Just add a tiny amount to your paint mix, some people just add a drop of washing up liquid to their painting water which apparently has a similar effect.
It has to do with the water in the paints. Soap reduces the surface tension of water.
"washing up liquid" is called "Dish Soap" in English.
I use Liquitex; I don't remember where, but someone posted a recipe for flow enhancer + acrylic extender + water, and I've been very happy with that; I keep a squeeze bottle of it handy.
I also keep a squeeze bottle of water + future floor polish. It does a great job with ink washes.
Incidentally, in the GW how to paint book, they suggest using pva glue as an acrylic medium. It actually works pretty well.
Never heard "Dish soap" before, allways called it "washing up liquid". :icon_scratch:
Don't know the make of mine as i got two bottles and poured them into one big bottle with an easy pouring spout that folds away into the top.
It made a hell of a difference to my painting, lots more smoother, more thin coats and takes longer but the result is worth it.
I always have to mentally translate 'dish-soap' when I see it in articles. That'll teach me for being a Brit. Although I will be spending two months in NY state this summer, so I suppose I'll have to get used to it! :icon_razz:
I hope you have a good time here in NYC. Drop me a line when you are here.
Yes, they have soap in NYC. Or so I've heard. It isn't obvious, though.

Depends on where you are, LOL. I have some , but shhh... dont tell the natives.
I'm gonna be working in a summer camp near Roscoe, so I hope there's soap! 100s of unwashed children otherwise.. yuck!
Sorry.. off-topic...
Maybe there is a river near by :icon_wink: Thanks for the info guys. I will pick some up this weekend.

call it Fairy Liquid and really confuse the smutty minded :read:
I tried using PVA in mixes and it works ok but leaves the fig a bit glossy. Vallejo matt medium is slightly better but more expensive. I dont think the extra cost is worth it for the Vallejo though.
wahat about water? i find that to be very good as a flow enhancing aid 9especially round London where the tap water has magical properties)
Plain water tends to dry very quickly. I use retarder to keep my paints wet, especially useful when mixing up a lot of a special color for a large model or a unit of troops.

Are you serious? I grow a lot of plants and I can honestly say the water in England is poisoned rather than magical. Maybe some warpstone contamination at best :icon_razz:
The plant in your avatar looks quite healthy and happy.

So is Perv. :tongue3:
Well maybe not the healthy bit. :icon_wink:
lol yeah the healthy side of my life is pretty terrible but I am definately happy, retired at age 24 !!!
Thats Hash Plant in the pic, took me 3 attempts to get that one growing properly but its one of the hardest types to grow. Since getting a Doulton water filter the growth rate of my plants has doubled, it takes out 99% of bacteria and all the chlorine and other crud*, even if you dont grow its a damn site healthier to drink. I have 4 cats and they hardly used to touch their water, since giving them the filtered water they drink half a bowl per day between them. I know it seems off topic but fltered water will probably work a lot better in your paint too, there stright back onto topic :sunny:
Have a look at this for a forum, we have over 17000 members now averaging 30 new people per day, 500 odd people logged-in at most times. I want this forum to get that way too!!!! We'll get there in the end!
