Anyone want to bet these are the same guys that build 28mm titans?
I have a friend/colleague who uses wargames to teach his classes. He uses elements of massive Bretonnian and Empire armies, some sort of moderns - Flames of War, I think- and ships of the main in various scales, having started with the Pirates! card game wherein you assemble your ships for 3d tabletop play. Not all at once, mind you.
For myself, I undertake enormous projects, but invariably grind to a halt before finishing. Then they go in the bin, or are given away.
How tall are titans?
A very big debate in the 28mm titan building community, due to differences in sizes between epic titans, the artwork for them and the 28mm titans officially commissioned.
These forgeword hellhounds, one of the smaller types of titan, are 10.5 inches tall.

The Titans IMO are way too small-even the little Warhound. The FW Warhound seems more appropriate to Knight size as opposed to Titan
And the Imperitor should stand somewhere like 10 feet tall or more(each foot contained Imperial guard units)
How tall are they in artwork or book descriptions? I was thinking of having a go at one from a good description.
That's the rub, really, Mike.
The FW titan scale makes them playable in large battles;
The size and Balemyr describes would make a 28mm scale titan proportional to an epic scale (6mm) titan;
Some of the artwork shows titans that would be over two stories tall, in constructed at 28mm scale.
If you're thinking of making one for you personally, then it is just a matter of choosing which you prefer.
If you're thinking of making one for sale or display at shows, or whatever, I'd probably go with something slightly larger than the FW scale: 24 to 36 inches for a Warlord sized titan, I'd say.

I'm sure you saw the Eldar titan on the FOD. I can't remember who posted it, but I'm sure they'd give you measurements, if you asked.

is it just me or do titans just seem pointless in a 28mm Miniatures game? If i wanted to play with toys that big ill get some tonka trucks.

not to mention actually getting it onto the gaming table and restricting its range so that it doesn't just obliterate everything else

I totally agree with both you and Tardis, AM. Unless you're using 28mm figures with Epic rules in a sports arena, totally pointless as a gaming piece.
However, as a modelling project ... that is a different game altogether :icon_wink:

Agreed. I enjoyed building my ork stompa (though it only measured about 8-10 inches). The simple difference of size made it interesting and offered new options.
Yeah-actually using titans is a rediculous idea, building them and using them as terrain however-is cool.
I even question the Baneblade.
I dont play 40k so what about the Baneblade?
The Baneblade is a "super-heavy" tank, first made for Epic. Halfway between a titan and a tank really - very heavily armed and armoured. The epic models have the Baneblade and its variants about twice the size of a landraider.
With the release of Apocalypse, GW have released a plastic Baneblade kit, which is pretty nice model. There is a Chaos variant as well, which is pretty much the same thing with added iron railings and some picket fencing (sic. any GW Chaos model). However, it is only just a little longer than a Landraider.
If you were to take the original conecpt of a Baneblade from epic, you could probably use its upper hull as a 2'x2' game table to fit a skirmish game on, which is what I think Andrew is getting at.

Unfortunately don't get enough wargames in myself. Local club costs too much to get there, especially with subs, etc. (Still manage to roleplay 1/week, though).
Have had large GW 'Epic' scale armies for about 17 years, Battletech for slightly less. Anything less than a regimental size game and Titans can become a liability, so you really need a 6'x4' table. Battletech much less so because it is a skirmish game.
The Baneblade is a 'Super Heavy' tank in Imperial Guard forces, about the size of some smaller scout titans. Others include Stormhammer, Stormblade, etc.
Myself, got about 6 Titans & 19 Super Hvy Tanks for Imperial Guard, 7 Titans & 33 Super Hvy Tanks for Eldar. Plus about 160 mechs (Inner Sphere & Clan mix) for Battletech.
As for converting to 28mm - my boss (when I worked for GW) had a Reaver Titan, company (3) of Stormhammers, and a company (10) of Leman Russ tanks. He used to go to US and use them in large games in some sports hall there.
