Thought I'd give OSL a go:

What do you think?

its done well and a nice effect but it does leave the dark side of the fig looking neglected.  maybe dull colours would work better than the highlighted black.  Its the hand that throws it I think as that looks like its in light but rest of side looks shaded

I think the base might need a bit more illumination as well, Matt.

Thanks guys, I'll bear it in  mind for next time. This was more of an experiment to try the technique than anything else. I appreciate the feedback.

I had a go at this once, the hard bit for me was doing it bright enough, I felt I had done it enough but after asking for advice got told to do it brighter.

The white seems wrong, too normal looking.
Darker recesses, with the edges catching the light more and some of the glow at the front and a bit at his right side.
It would reflect on his back some too, judging form where the light source is.
His left hand should be darker, as it's blocked from the light and as Perv said, maybe highlight the dark side with the base colour of what each colour would be, to give it a hint of the colour it should be.
As keeper40k said a bit more on the base and darken the dark side of it, to set the light side off more too.

You did a better job of it that I did on my first go, your always improving and trying new things, good stuff mate.  :icon_thumright:

Have to remember my advice for when I try it again, here's a link to mine so I'm not nicking the post to show what I did.
I have learned a few more things since it was done last year, It's one of my two DOD entry's for last years comp and hard to get decent photo's of him on the large diorama.
