i have decided i'm going to take part ina grand tournament next february. for that i need an army for Warhammer ancient battles.
to be more precise i need a 2000 point army. if you have ever played warhammer fantasy then the armies for WAB are about twice the size of a fantasy army :icon_eek: :icon_eek:
so i have the small matter of 200 saxons coming my way soon
that's 200 bloody models to paint in 2/3 months!
i really let myself in for it don't I?

as they're regimental u can paint 6 or so at a time and get it done faster. Painting each figure as a seperate character takes forever thinking about colours alone !!! I wish you the best of luck, are you gonna try dipping for quickness?
no i'll be doing a base coat and maybe 1 or 2 highlights or a version of the foundry 3 step method.
and i'll be using transfers for the shield designs and banners.
Please do a WIP thread. That is still a ton of painting. Then again you will really get a lot of practise and be ready for some big projects after that. I know I can think of a few.... :icon_wink:
Slightly off topic: where do you find minis for WAB?
That really does sound like a fun project. I know that painting a few mini's in regiments is a bit quicker than painting individuals. Unfortunately for me, all I do anymore is townsflok, they are all individuals. :icon_scratch:

As far as I know, you can use any company's figures for it and there is plenty around to choose from.
If you can get an idea of the normal price, you can use Ebay to maybe grab some cheep.

At least you picked a good army-Saxons rock. The only place I see mention of Saxons are from small English wargames groups- vikings this, vikings that. I draw a picture of a Saxon king and I had some pissant asshat actually argue with me over wether it was a Saxon or a Viking.

my saxons are coming from www.renegademiniatures.com they are designed by kev adams IIRC. they are not the prettiest minis but the guy said he could match the minis i wanted for my list and give me a deal i was happy with.
i like the whole conquest era and the fact that saxons are a bit like a dwarf army in that they stay put and dont move when they want to but hit like a sledgehammer when the fighting gets up close and personal.
plus i cant stand painting cloaks or horses!
Actually, I rather like the miniatures. Nice and simple and clean.
They look fine mate and 100 figs for £80 is a better deal than you'd get from GW Been looking round for a King with armour and Axe but nothing caught my eye. Hard enough finding a human armoured axe wielder let alone with a crown on ......
I've got a stack of Foundry saxons/vikings/something along those lines, and loads of the old Citadel stuff of similar appearance. Seem to recall a couple of king/leader types in amongst those. If I get chance over the weekend I'll have a root through and see if I can find anything suitable.

They're saxons. There won't be any uniform colour schemes but rather general themes that run throughout the entire army.
still quicker than thinking about each fig seperately. On my Dwarfs I want slightly varying skin shades to add variety but its another element to think about....a bonus if I was to get them painted by various people though

had a huge row with the wife because she didn't pay the phone bill (BT stopped us calling out) and ended up paying for it myself. didn't tell the wife about this but...........arrrrgh my bank balance.........i can see some more stuff going on ebay :icon_eek:
now to get the new shelf/cabinet to hold all these minis when i start smuggling them home next week :icon_wink:
