anyone fancy a little contest? Sick of Dwarfs for the moment so how about one of the Eldar Harlequins? I've always wanted to paint one but known I could never do the job justice. I am willing to give it a go as need a challenge but dont expect great results. It will be an easy one sided contest so anyone wanting their pride given a little polish they should beat me easily :icon_w00t:
i'd love too and i even have a shadowseer for converting up, but alas i have te not so small matter of a netherlord to paint before early october.
i'm sure matt will help you out!
lol, no thanks!
I'm on goblins and dwarves at the mo.
I'd love to paint something but I ain't got no Harlies, sorry!
I think I can manage an quick Harlequin :) One of the old one or one of the new ones? Or just any Harlequin?
cheers anyway guys, I know there are contests finishing next month so bad timing on my part.
I only have the old RoR boxed set but its complete so have a few to choose from Keeper, did you fancy doing the same model or different? I am happy either way.
Fab I am happy to send u a Harlie but I'd need it back after to complete the box I'm afraid
Go for it guys and just take as much time as you need. That would encourage more people to get in on the challenge.
Lets just choose whichever of the old Harlequins takes our fancy :)
@Fabian: If you want a Harlequin to paint, I've got a few to spare. Feel free to choose one or two, and I'll see if I've got them to spare, if you want to join in, of course!

cool, I will pop a pic here when I have selected the right one :occasion14:
I'll try to get mine done next week but take as long as you need mate, as Mike says it may give others the opportunity to join in.
well after i've got the big fella done i'd be happy to join in
I have a batch I'm working on - already painted the ol' Death Jester, quite a decent job IMHO but it may or may not be under your respective leagues... but yeah just cuz like my Ushabti they've been 'ill do them when I'm better' models I've needed an excuse to paint some.
If I fail horribly nothing lsot hmmm :)
Hmmm ... if Fabian wasn't in it, and I don't remember seeing Jolly Bob's work before, this could turn into a "how horribly can you paint a harlequin competition" :D
Feel free to join in thoigh, Jolly Bob :D
Still, we can all aspire to this kind of standard (apologies if you're read this before):

lol could well be Keeper :icon_w00t: I cant believe that article, is that a joke? I've finally found someone as inept as me at modelling !!!! Crikey that bloke must have 2 thumbs and no fingers....
No rush Medved, whenever youre ready mate :icon_wink:
I've decided on a death jester Jolly Bob, great minds and all that. I too have left these for a while b4 painting as wanted to be better b4 started them. Bought them in 1989 I think...... If we fail horribly then a quick soak in stripper removes all traces of embarassment mate :icon_wink:
Don't worry it is a joke, although after seeing some of the 'workshops' on TMP, one begins to wonder...
I haven't painted anything for months... well finished anything (yes Dave, the sorceress still hasn't been base-coated) the last things I finished were my Wood Elves for the Frothers game at Salute 07... :icon_redface:
sometimes you need something to get the bug back. I find looking at white dwarfs helps, the eavy metal paintings always seem to give me inspiration.
I thought it was a joke cos where it said carefully block in. After seeing some Pro-Painted minis on Ebay I did wonder though too :icon_w00t:

Just needs a black ink wash to fix it. :icon_wink:

Which mini is "Dave, the sorceress" and where can we get one? ;)

lol I have a paint called Magic Metal, doubt even that would work !!! Speaking of that I've had the paint 3 years and havent opened it, must see what its like one day....

Could be all sorts of reasons in a fantasy setting, not just your regular transvestitism. Spell backfired causing breasts or gender change, girdle of femininity, all sorts of things ;)
lol Guess there had to be a downside to magic :icon_scratch:
I have a metal hobby paint somewhere that you can polish as far as I can remember, got it 15+ years ago but that's about all I can remember about it.

Yes it is, I still have it, must get it out sometime and try it again.
Yeah my jester's either quite good or very bad... I tried to dabble in source lighting, ON A DEATH JESTER, wth most of my little painting experience being about a year ago... but it looks battle-field-good at any rate :D
Theres a few metallic paints that you rub to give effects. They still make them and have probably extended their range now so if they were good they will be better now, in theory....I toyed with the idea of trying them but with my clumsy hands I thought they'd give me more grief than pleasure :icon_scratch:
lol if you can do source lighting then you have a great understanding of painting, to even attempt it is a good sign of your skill mate. Look forward to seeing the Jester Jolly Bob :icon_wink:

Here ya go :icon_wink:
Never heard of them being reviewed so cant tell you anything about them unfortunately
Heres a colour chart with a couple of pics

Mr Hobby - is that the Japanese paint that is always recommended when you buy a Hasegawa 1/72 plastic kit?
Thank you Perv
It sounds very interesting to use, surprised no one has used b4. Whats that 15 year old one like Wristy? Solid? :icon_w00t:

I've 'attempted' source lighting, does that make me a skilled painter? :icon_suspicious:
Note that the said attempt has not been posted on the internet... :icon_wink:
Yeah, I said I've attempted it, not I can do it :P
Depends what sort of source lighting, if it's a lava glow it's pretty simple (in principle)..

doing it well however is a little harder..

Solid examples there. Are there good tutorials out there on the web for it? I want to expand the number of tutorials here on the forum.
if you attempt source lighting then I think you must be a skilled painter, or a very very bad one and dont care what it comes out like :icon_w00t: I am still struggling with working out where to put highlights but I dont paint enough at the moment to improve.
I painted 3 Harlies to go in the comp, they are all stripped and back to base metal now. Attroshus is the word I use and its bad spelling equals the job I did !!!! I may try another soon but then again I may just flatten them into lead bases with a sledgehammer......
