Very cool!

I would say you need to go darker on the metal's still, il put the pic in photoshop a little later and put on where about's, as it will be easier that way than trying to explain it.

Nice idea Matty. That blade you did with the female barbarian looked very good. I was thinking that if he does something similar the he will be in good position.

There you go.
Using the 75/25 rule iv pointed out where need's to be black and what needs to be pure mithril.
Blue: Mithril
Orange: Black
Where there's no colour is for the blend.

I always start with the point closest to the light source, which using conventional zenithal is normally the highest point, so in this case the tip on the top side of the blade. (I actually did this the wrong way on my model, because the sword was painted seperate and I wasn't taking much attention at the time hehe!)

Also you need a black line where the blade meets the hilt, so on the top side you will already have this, but will need to be painted in on the underside.

Hope this helps, if you want any more explanation just ask.

But I wouldn't mind having a pop at this model if anybody ha one for trade (Hint, hint ;) )

*EDIT* on the underside you need to do the same thing, but switch the colours, so more black and less mithril.

Thanks for the help, ill work on it later. Im doing some silver hem to improve the pop of the dress at the moment. I also was playing with the idea of tartan, but its eluding me at the moment for the areas on the jerkin.

For metallics on cloth I would always use NMM, IMO it looks more natural and helps give it a different texture to real metals.
Though that is personal choice.

.

whoa that's a friggin lightsaber, i didn't see that in the film.

cracking paintjob so far.  you need to lose the rock on the base at the front, it stops you from looking at the lower half of the mini and is a bit too big for the base.

purple and green inks are good for shading down the metal.

That's really how she killed the witch King of Angmar.

I meant to mention that last night (but was too drunk to remember, lol). Also break up that clump in the middle of the back of the base (your last pic).

I might just rebase her.. i added some silver trim (with metallics and it looks quite nice! ) Im going to have to work a bit more on the dress/ and the face/ and the jerkin... hell... only three weeks to go... should be doable!!

Im slowly going mad.

make sure you have something nice planned for when they are finished. GD work can be very draining.

Good point, you need something to do that will be recreational and fun.  You can do a Kyrie paint off with Stu and Matt (once they get them in the mail) :icon_wink:

Well another update.. phew spent all afternoon and early morning past midnight working on her.

im a little ticked off because i listened to some advice from different people and both advice although useful made me go three steps back, and i feel that this mini has lost some of her original soul now. Perhaps its because its 4 am and im tired. Be gentle.

She is really progressing nicely. Get some sleep mate. I am sure you will feel much better when you have fresh eyes looking at her. There looks like there is a small dot just above her right elbow in the rear shot.

ok the change of angle has brought a few things up.

'her' right eye (on out left) needs some work to it. both eyes need to be looking the smae way and bang on to be in with a shout of a demon.

the lips are looking a little heavy in colour.  a few glazes of the flesh mix (elf flesh?) should tone it back a little, then give it a little highlight dot.

the base as a bit diagonal. i'd say to keep tha base you need to repaint the eyes to be lokking down more.

Yeah the change in base did lose the focus on her face that the original mini has. Looking down is a good idea. Im  glad that the advice has been minor tweaking. the eye has been a common point on most forums.

Ok well i made it past the first round with eowyn and the orc pilot... so regionals here i come!!

heres my latest shot of eowyn. the orc pilot didnt get  a photo before entering because of battery death!

bascially i changed her eyes. tidied up the metals some more and redid the hem in grays  rather than silver. Its a tidier job and im happy as a result.

Yay! Go Kurt! I like Eowyn much more this time round, and the base is great. The whole thing seems quasi-historical, (something I've said about Mike's  dioramas before) which fits Middle-Earth perfectly.
