Stu's topic on music he likes to paint by (stuart's tune of the week (http://www.customhobby.com/forum/index.php?topic=1012.0;topicseen)) has got me thinking about the music I listen to when I'm painting.  And I don't think I've ever painted whilst listening to either of the songs he posted, or anything like it.  Then again - my painting isn't as good as his, so maybe he has the better ideas! Still ...

Let me say that there is nothing wrong with the music that Stu has posted - there is nothing bad or wrong with it, this isn't a thread for bashing other music styles - its just that if you cut me in half like a stick of Blackpool Rock, I would read:

So, as an example of the music I listen to whilst painting, a lesser known classic of the genre that is a masterpiece of guitarwork and vocal aggression, although lacking a little is vocal skill. Also from the 80's (one of the only things it has in common with Stu's selections), I present for you aural pleasure:

lol I am gonna prepare myself b4 I listen to that !!!!!  The name Slayer is vaguely familiar.  Not really into Metal, I like the Old Metal Licker stuff like Enter Sandman and Sad But True.  Have a couple of Stained songs but they are mellow.

Yeah, mellow is not really the adjective I would use for Slayer :)  I'm listening to their Best-Of double CD right now, which is entitled "Decade of Aggression" :icon_lol:

Is the swear filter a little over-tuned at the moment, seems a bit daft I can't use the word:

Not ovetuned just set to stop daft members from being offensive. I will fix it though since that one is causing other problems with perfectly acceptable English.

A little classic metal to start the week, here.  A icon of the Black Sabbath back catalogue: Iron Man

And one of my favourite covers of this song, Trevor Smith Jr (Brooklyn, NY) and John Michael Osbourne (Birmingham, UK) coming together to combine Hardcore East Coast Hip Hop and Black Country Industrial Metal.  Better known as Busta Rhymes and Ozzy Osbourne, this track contains very strong and racially contentious language, right from the start (as you might expect from Mr Rhymes).

Next example for my little monologue is from the eternally popular, Manowar.  A popular touring band with seventeen albums to their name, yet they are virtually unknown outside of the rock and metal fraternity.

Actually, I like them so much I couldn't restrict myself to just one track.  First, a very mellow balland for a metal band, then a track from the new album with a Warhammer AMV and finally a cheesy 80s glam-rock style track.

You'll probably either love them, or hate them, or perhaps you'll just be not bothered ;)

I tried sculpting with the radio on once. It got to be so disturbing I now have a busted radio.

SILENCE

That is what I prefer to sculpt by.

I envy that you're able to do that, Bodhi (work in silence - not bust radios!).

I can't stand silence when I'm painting, because its not acutal proper silence - I get distracted by the external noise - the road on the other side of the valley, people passing outside the house, birds, the steelworks further up the valley, etc. and I just can't concentrate properly.  I like to have something I can control to mask this low level noise, so that I can concentrate properly :)

For me it depends on my mood, I go from total silence to classical music.

but... I can bust phones to. Last time I did was when I worked for a marketing survey telephone service (I HATE phones don't know why I applied the job in the first place...). Two hours. That's how long I made it... Then I smashed the phone and left  :icon_wink:

Hmm I missed this...

what do I paint to? what do I read to? its all the same stuff something to drown out extraneous noise in the silence.

I used to like a little punky stuff... Toyah....  heavy stuff.. Celtic Frost.. Hellhammer then I  mellowed into Motorhead, and Maiden.

Now lots of classic old rock.... I persuaded my wife to come and see Deep Purple in the summer.... but I listen to all sorts Cramps.... half-man half-buiscuit... puppini sisters .... medieval babes ... opera babes .... baroque classical, and I like to mix them up.... Wagner and night on bare mountain are good for terrain.  :icon_wink:

Can I take it Deep Purple are good live?

I pursuaded my wife to come and see The Darkness a couple of years ago, which she quite enjoyed, but she wouldn't come and see Iron Maiden with me, so I had to go with my boss (which was cool).

I note you've not mentioned the band Mr Bungle in there ...
